Your army will consist mainly of snipers and rocket launchers. Later on, you will need other troops as well, but if you do not have forts yet, or just a few, build only snipers, rocket launchers (and some plasma tanks if possible). Also build one of each possible troop.
1. When attacking an unowned county (lvl 12 fort).
6000 snipers/rocket launchers combined, plus one of every available troop. Plasma tanks are welcome as well.
2. When attacking an unowned metro (lvl 15 fort).
40000 snipers/rockets combined, plus one of every available troop. Plasma tanks/power armour are welcome, not necessary. By the time you have this amount of troops, you might already have one or more motherships. Send them along with your troops if you have any. They will boost attack and defense of all the attacking troops.
3. When attacking an unowned sc (lvl 18 fort).
Probably a lot of attacks needed. Start with everything you have got, don't try if you have less than 200k troops. Use first aid add-on and attack add-on if you can spare the credits. Don't send carriers with your ms, don't send plasma tanks.
Once all defending armor is gone, only send snipers, rocket launchers, plasma rifles, power armor, heavy fighters, cruisers and ms. No bumps.
4. When attacking an unowned capital (lvl 20 fort) or sh (biggest fort)
Same as attacking an unowned sc.
But... As soon as you know how many motherships are defending the cap, decide whether you want to go on. It is difficult for some to stop after you attacked it the first time, but be realistic: if there are 4500 ms present and you have 200k troops, just stop. Ask in alliance chat if someone is near that can help you if your army is not big enough. His or her losses might very well be just a fraction of yours if he has more ms to defend the foot soldiers.
After the defending armour are wiped out, you will need 1 ms per every 1000 defending ms with your snipers/rockets/plasma rifles/power armor/heavy fighters/cruisers to attack without losses
You will always take losses in the last rounds when attacking the biggest forts. That is the time when the wall defenses and prolly some remaining defending snipers/rocket launchers will start to decimate your army. I don't think you can do anything about those losses. More troops always help...
Feel free to correct me, if needed, anyone...
